RAFAEL LEÃO

Rafael Leão has been working in the lighting design field for 20 years, and in that time he has developed over 800 residential and commercial lighting projects in Brazil and America. Mr. Leão holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree and he is a specialist in Built Environment and Energy Conservation (FUPAM/USP 2002). He received his Masters in Architecture with his dissertation about Urban lighting master plan for downtown São Paulo in 2008 from the University of São Paulo (USP). Rafael is a professional member of the IALD - International Association of Lighting Designers, the IES - Illuminating Engineering Society, and also a member of the AsBAI - Brazilian Association of Lighting Architects, where he served two terms as its president (2012 - 2015). His work as a lighting designer has been featured in several publications and websites and has earned Mr. Leão several significant awards from his peers in the US and Brazilian lighting societies. Rafael Leão regularly speaks at international lighting design conferences and presents at lighting industry events across the world. In 2014 Mr. Leão was a workshop leader and a guest speaker at the 3rd EILD – Encuentro Iberoamericano of Lighting Designers in Medellin, Colombia. In 2013 he was a guest speaker at Parsons The New School for Design (New York City) and at Lighting Laboratory of the KTH – Royal Institute of Technology (Stockholm). In 2012 he was a guest speaker at the 2nd EILD in Querétaro, Mexico as well as at the 3rd LED Forum held in São Paulo, Brazil. In 2010 he was a guest speaker at the 12th Jornada Internacional de Iluminación in Mexico City, and in 2009, he presented an electronic paper at the Professional Lighting Design Convention held in Berlin.
